FUN FACTS

Did You Know?

FACT: In 2008, the Idaho Democratic Party had no social networking presence on the Web. Today the IDP has an active presence on Facebook and Twitter. As of June 3, 2009, the IDP has 1,193 fans on Facebook (the Idaho GOP has about half that number), and 314 followers on Twitter. Idaho Democrats are increasingly using social networking to organize, publicize, and inspire action.

FACT: 58,000 more Idahoans voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in 2008 than in 2004.

FACT: In 2000 the West had NO Democratic governors. It now has five.

FACT: Throughout the West in 2008, Barack Obama outperformed 2004 candidate John Kerry by 14%. The number of Democrat governors in the eight states of the Intermountain West has grown from zero to five in the past eight years. The number of senators has grown from 3 to 7; the number of house seats held by Democrats, from 5 to 17.

FACT: Idaho has 44 counties, 35 state legislative districts, and 2 U.S. Congressional Districts, an estimated population of 1,429,096 as of 2005, and is approximately 83,557 square miles in size.

FACT: Idaho is supposed to be a solidly Republican state, but last year, more Idahoans donated a dollar to Democrats via their tax returns than to the GOP. More Idaho taxpayers trust Democrats and are investing in the Idaho Democratic Party than any other political party through the state's voluntary tax return check-off! That's according to the funds distributed by the bi-annual Idaho Election Campaign Fund - also called the "political party check-off box."

For the tax year ending in 2007, the Idaho Democratic Party received $35,540, that's $4,649 more than the Republican Party received. Additionally, the Libertarian and Constitution party will each take a nominal piece of the Fund, $2,854 and $2,144 respectively.

None of us likes to pay any more taxes than we have to - but you can help the Idaho Democratic Party by remembering to check the box on your Idaho tax return saying that you'd like a dollar of your tax to go to the Democrats. Couples filing joint returns can donate $2.
